"Your attitude, not your aptitude, determines your altitude" - Zig Ziglar

I always thought I was the type of person who always motivated herself and did not need anyone in that aspect of my life. It was always easy to motivate myself, as I knew what I wanted and how to set myself towards that path. Then adulting begun, and my always-clear path did not look so clear again. That affected my self-motivation. There were so many decisions to be made like what I wanted to do with my life and most importantly how it was to be done. There was therefore the need for things to be put in place, conscious decisions and effort to be made to make the path a little bit clearer again. Those new sets of attitudes that will propel me if I wanted to go further.

Well if I’m not wrong, I can say that I am not the only person who felt and still feels that way. Sometimes we all need that little push to move, to find it within ourselves to move when things do not look too clear because that is where everything begins, within ourselves.

Moving towards our altitude can look like a daunting and an unattainable task when we do not have the right attitude as well as the path that will get us there. When things are not clear, our lives can change directions with just a decision, a decision to start.

That decision to do something you want to do even when you have no idea how to go about it can cause the change you want, but making the decision to start is just the beginning of the whole process. It propels you one-step forward towards your goals. When I was confused on how to approach my thesis research work, I spoke to a kind lecturer who said some simple words that changed my perspective more than I could have imagined. She said, just start! Bummer right? Well that was what I thought at the time but then I started. I took a pen and a book with my journals and I started. I must say that statement was all I needed to hear. To solidify the first step of making the decision to start, there is that need to write down what you have in mind about how to proceed.

Writing them down is going to be that constant reminder that you have something to achieve. This is where we need to attitude-up! Wear that sexy hair of positivity, that gorgeous dress of commitment, that amazing necklace of resilience, that expensive shoe of discipline and consistency and last but not the least hold that elegant purse of patience. At this point, we are ready to step out of our house (comfort zone) and move to our destination (achieving our goal).

Why the need for positivity you may ask? Well I’m not talking about that false positivity that everything will be alright when we are doing nothing towards achieving our goals. I’m talking about that positivity that says you can make it as you take the needed steps. Just like how a baby fully believes it will walk if it takes the first step. Wearing that hair of positivity will give you that confidence we all feel when we are in a new good hair. When we are able to picture our success, it makes it easier to work towards it and that is when commitment is needed. We tend to stay committed when we feel good about what we are doing and the good success we picture at the end of it all. When we are able to pick up that gorgeous dress of commitment, it is easy to step out and work. That necklace of resilience is extremely important to our dress code. When things become tough and we feel we cannot do it anymore, we are to reach out and touch that necklace and remind ourselves that this is just the process we have to go through to reach the end.

Just like how we put the promise rings given to us by our loved ones on our necks as a chain to remind us of the goal ahead (well for those who can relate). It is our duty to safeguard ourselves and press on towards that goal. Discipline and consistency are so expensive that if we leave them behind it will cost us dearly. Imagine a fully dressed woman without shoes, walking barefooted. That only looks stormy from afar and close. We will not be able go far without discipline and consistency in the steps we make towards achieving our goals.

All these attitudes mentioned so far will only get us so far when we are able to fit them into the purse of patience. That purse that holds the assurance that when we are patient and put in all those attitudes, we will reach the altitude.

No matter what happens, keep going but then, do not forget to go at your own pace, in the end its starts and ends with YOU.

What attitudes have you developed so far that helped and is still helping you achieve your goals? Do well to share yours in the comment section and kindly share after your comments. Happy new year our lovely readers. Good to have you all here again.
