First Aid?
Mental health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.
Hay Foundation Africa’s Mental Health First Aid Course is a virtual training program that gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance abuse problem as well as help connect them to the appropriate care.
Mental Health First Aiders are our friends, family, teachers, colleagues, leaders, community members. You can sign up for the course if you are interested in learning how to properly provide emotional support to the people around you.
The program is an intensive 6-week program that covers the following
- Common signs and symptoms of mental illnesses and substance abuse.
- Reflective listening
- Lay counseling
- How To interact with a person in crisis.
- How To connect the person in crisis with help.
- Applying the ALGEE Action Plan
